Canton- Joseph J. Berardi, 74, of Canton, IL, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2012 at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born to Joseph and Emogene (Monroe) Berardi on February 14,1938 in Pekin, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Lou Petri.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah (Mayhew) Berardi, his daughters Lane (Kevin) Hampton of Canton and Lana Berardi of Champaign, IL; four grandchildren, L, K, J and M Hampton and several nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Pekin High School in 1956 where he played many sports and attended Spoon River College, Sangamon State University and Western Illinois University.
He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years, on the Fulton County Board for 4 years and the Canton City Council for 4 years.
He worked as a home builder with his father’s construction company for many years and later as an entrepreneur and a sales consultant in the recycling industry for small businesses and Fortune 500 Companies.
His interests included slow pitch softball, golf, boat racing, and flying his plane when younger and later he enjoyed woodworking, landscaping, as well as designing creations from brick and stone. He also loved being in politics, and traveling. His very favorite activity was cooking for and entertaining his friends and family. He was a friend to all.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Canton VFW on July 3, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Cremation rites have been accorded by Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home of Canton.
