CANTON- Melba P. Davis, 95, of Canton, passed away at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 5, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Pine Acres Nursing Home in Dekalb, Illinois. She was born on April 26, 1922 in Fairview, IL, a daughter of Raymond and Alta (Brokaw) Voorhees. She married Harold P. Davis on November 26, 1941 in Canton. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1994. She later married Palmer Wardwell in March of 1997, he preceded her in death on March 9, 1999.
Also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Mary Ann Orwig, two brothers, three sisters, and one grandson, Christopher Riesen.
Surviving are her loving children, son, H. Richard and Marilyn (Orwig) Davis of Lincoln, IL; grandson, Kevin R. and Kelly (Weaver) Davis, and great-grandchildren, Michael A. Davis, Chelsea & Dillion (Stewart) Atkins, Briana Davis, Abigail Davis, Katelyn Davis, Naomi Davis, Levi and Tomie Weaver; granddaughter, Terri & Randy (Davis) Tennison and great-grandchildren, Coden & Amanda (Knerr) Tennison, Colten Tennison, McKenzie Tennison, Caden Tennison; granddaughter, Sherri and Michael (Davis) Reaves, and great-grandchildren, Davis Reaves, Myla Reaves, Nyah Reaves; son, Robert L. “Bob” and Sue (Harwick) Davis, of Canton; granddaughter, Andrea & Tony (Davis) Lane, and great-grandchildren, Raele Lane, and Hayden Lane; grandson, Eric & Kathy Davis, great-grandchild, Grace Davis, Hope Davis, Isaiah Davis, Josiah Davis; granddaughter, Leanne Davis, grandson, Bryan & Tefinie Orwig, great-grandchildren, Chandler Orwig, Makenna Orwig, Taryn Orwig; grandson, Chad & Patty Orwig, great-grandchildren, Kaylie Orwig, and Keith Orwig; grandson, Craig & Amy Orwig, great-grandchildren, Taylor Orwig, Matthew Orwig, and Lillie Orwig; daughter, Janene and Wayne (Davis) Riesen of Dekalb, IL, grandsons, David & Samantha Riesen, Christopher Riesen, and Tucker Riesen, granddaughter, Emily & Zach (Riesen) Herzog, great-grandson, Jordan Herzog; one great-great-granddaughter, and one son-in-law, Duane Orwig of Washington, IL.
Melba graduated from Galesburg Practical Nurse program as an LPN in 1968, and worked for the Coleman Clinic in Canton for several years and was also a homemaker.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Covenant Community Church in Canton, where visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of the services. Rev. Kevin Van Tine will officiate.
