Anthony W. Young

Anthony W. Young, 49, of 153 W. Fort St., Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, May 23rd at 7:35 am at Graham Hospital Emergency Room, Canton. Born February 4, 1957 in West Union, Ohio to William L. and Clara J. (Cooper) Young, he married Rita S. Grooms on August 9, 1981 in West Union. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters; Sarah L. (Richard W. Keefer Jr.) Keefer of Dahinda, IL. and Whitney D. Young, at home, one brother; William L. Young Jr. of Philippi, West Virginia and one sister; Pamela K. (Lonnie) Mason of Lynx, Ohio.
His parents preceded him in death.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Arrangements were provided by Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington.

Mollie R. Mathews

Mollie R. MathewsMollie R. Mathews, 89, of 519 E. Pearl St. Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, May 23rd at 6:44 pm at the Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
Born May 19, 1917 in New York, New York to Attilio and Vittoria (Nespoli)
Maserati, she married Merle D. Mathews on August 31, 1940 in Canton.
He survives. Also surviving are one son; Tom (Sue) Mathews of Nevis, MN.,
one daughter; Janice (Gene) Saunders of Yates City, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one sister; Ann Rogondino of San Diego, CA.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
She was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church in Farmington and the Farmington Women of the Moose Chapter 470.
Funeral mass will be Saturday, May 27th at 10:00 am at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Farmington. Father Bruce King will officiate. Visitation will be Friday May 26th from 6:00 to 7:45 pm, at the Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington, with the recitation of the rosary at 7:45 pm. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington.
Memorials may be made to the Farmington Rescue Squad or to her church.

Doris E. Oldfield

Doris E. OldfieldDoris E. Oldfield, 85, of Farmington passed away on Sunday, May 21st at 1:20 p.m. at the Methodist Medical Center, Peoria. She was born in Sittingbourne, Kent, England, on October 28, 1920 to Robert G. and Eleanor E. (Aspin) Clinch and came to America with her family in 1923.
She married Charles E. “Chippy” Oldfield on January 8, 1938 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter; Eleanor (Don) Campbell of Farmington, one daughter-in-law; Bonnie Oldfield of Farmington, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-children and six great-great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one son; Carl Oldfield, one grandson, one great-granddaughter and one brother, Herbert Clinch.
She was a member of the Cottonwood Community Club.
Graveside services will be Thursday, May 25th at 2:00 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington. Rev. Tony Severine will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 24th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington.
Memorials may be made to the Farmington Rescue Squad or the American Lung Association.

Roger A. Snider

Roger A. SniderRoger A. Snider, 65, 105 Monroe St., St. Augustine, passed away on Friday, May 19th at 9:15 p.m. at his residence. Born in Peoria County, Rosefield Township, on July 6, 1940 to George and Mary (McCabe) Snider, he married Marrion Dobbins in Peoria on August 31, 1964. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons; Rodger (Diane) Snider of Roy, Utah and Rick Snider of Denver, CO., three daughters; Keri (Michael) Erickson of Raleigh, North Carolina, Holly (Andrew) Timmons of Abingdon and Dawn Snider of Denver, CO., seven grandchildren and one brother; Robert Snider of Washington State. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother and two sisters.
He was a steam fitter for Peoria Local 353, retiring in 2003.
He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Masonic 363 Horeb Lodge in Elmwood where he was the Worship Master in 2006.
He served in the US Army in the Korean War as a paratrooper.
Services will be Saturday May 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington with visitation two hours prior and Masonic rites at 12:45 p.m.
Deacon Jim Haneghan will officiate.
Burial will be at Texas Union Cemetery, rural Trivoli with military rites performed by the Farmington American Legion Post 140.
Memorials may be made to the Masonic Childrens Home.

John Edward Edson

John Edward Edson, 68, of 35 East Railroad, Canton, passed away on
Friday, May 19th at his residence. He was born in Peoria on March 20,
1938 to James E. and Elizabeth (Monroe) Edson.
Surviving is one brother, David W. Edson of Canton.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one half brother, James
Edson. He was an engineer for the City of Canton.
Services will be Tuesday, May 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy-Sedgwick
Memorial Home, Canton, with visitation one hour prior.
Rev. Kevin VanTine will officiate.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Canton
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Anthony M. McElwee Jr.

Anthony M. McElwee Jr., 91, of 526 W. Fort, Farmington passed away
Sunday, May 14th at 4:20 pm at the Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
Born July 19, 1914 in Farmington to Anthony M. and Christina (Morton) McElwee Sr., he married Wilda Marie Ramshaw on February 12, 1938 in
Davenport, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 6, 1973.
Surviving are two sons; Bernard Anthony McElwee of Phoenix, AZ.
and James McElwee of Burr Ridge, IL., one daughter; Carolyn Sue Heale
of Phoenix, AZ., five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one great-
great grandchild and one sister; Lois McCallister of Oak Run, IL.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
He was a machinist for Caterpillar in East Peoria and Mossville.
He was a member of the Farmington United Methodist Church, the
Farmington Moose Lodge #1571 and the Farmington AF & AM Masonic
Lodge #192.
Services will be Saturday, May 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Anderson-Sedgwick
Funeral Home with visitation from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. Moose rites will
follow at 1:45 p.m.
Rev. Joe Richard will officiate.
Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington.
Memorials may be made to the Farmington Moose Lodge #1571.

Robert Balagna

Robert BalagnaRobert Balagna, 87, of 115 N. Elmwood Rd., Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, May 2nd at 4:15 a.m. at Farmington Country Manor, Farmington.
Born, July 16, 1918 in Farmington to John and Esther (Whited) Balagna, he
first married Dorothy Stockov. She passed away on March 2, 1958. He then married June Looger in Peoria on November 25, 1959. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons; Robert A. (Linda) Balagna of Groveland, IL.,
Robert B. (Phyllis) Chatten of Germantown Hills and James E. Chatten of Shadow Hills, CA., four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one brother, Steve (Gloria) Balagna of Farmington. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one daughter, Jean Knapp, and two brothers; Jack and Mitchell Balagna.
He was a coal miner for the Nickel Plate Mine in Farmington for many years. He then was an auto mechanic for Holmes Buick in Farmington. Last he was an auto vocational tech instructor for Spoon River College. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving as a Naval Aviation Mechanic in the South Pacific Theater.
He was a past member of the Farmington Masonic Lodge.
Bob was an avid gardener. He had many fruit trees and generously shared with neighbors and friends.
Services will be Friday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington where visitation will be Thursday May 4th
from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Rev. Joe Richard will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington.
Memorials may be made to the Farmington Rescue Squad.

David T. Parsons

David T. ParsonsDavid T. Parsons, 71, of 105 Middle Park Drive, Canton, passed away on Tuesday, May 2nd. Born in Brereton, March 30, 1935, to Thomas and Mary (Barberis) Parsons, he married Jeanette Ann Duffield on November 28, 1956 in Lewistown. She passed away on December 1, 1995.
Surviving are one son; Jeffrey (Cathy) Parsons of Canton, two grandsons;
Jason (Mindi) Parsons and Joshua Parsons, both of Canton, one great-grandson; Carter Thomas Parsons, two brothers; Darrell (Lois) Parsons of Canton and Gary (Shari) Parsons of Florida and a special friend; Janet Krohe of Canton.
Preceding him in death were his parents and wife.
He worked for International Harvester (Navistar) as an accountant, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the Canton Moose. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Services will be Friday, May 5th at 2:00 pm at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton, where visitation will be two hours prior.
Rev. Rick Atchley will officiate.
Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton.

Donald E. Evans

Donald E. EvansDonald E. Evans, 80, of 198 North Elmwood Rd., Farmington, died at 6:38 a.m. Monday May 1st at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Born November 1, 1925, in Farmington Township to Josiah and Blanche
(Slack, Barnes) Evans, he married Berneta Little on March 10, 1946. She
survives. Also surviving are three daughters; Donna (Jay) Fager of LaGrange, Georgia, Carol (Ed) Diefendorf of Littleton, Colorado and Lynn (David) London of Fallbrook, California, one son; Michael (Suzanne Ginger) Evans of rural Farmington, six grandchildren, four great-grand-
children, three step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, one brother; Chellis (Nancy) Evans of rural Canton and one sister; Marian (Walter) Smith of Pekin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother; Paul Evans and two ½ brothers; Raymond and Clyde Barnes.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army in the Pacific Theater.
He farmed all of his life in Fulton County. He was a member of Providence Chapel Church, Farmington American Legion Post #140, where he was a past Commander, Farmington Odd Fellows Lodge, where he was a past Grand Noble and the Fulton County Farm Bureau, where he was a former executive board member.
Services will be Thursday, May 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington, where visitation will be Wednesday May 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pastor John Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at the Providence Chapel Church Cemetery, rural Farmington. Military rites will be at the graveside. Memorials may be made to the Providence Chapel Church Memorial Fund or the Farmington Rescue Squad.

April 29th at 2:40 p.m. at Sunset Manor, Canton. Born in Shelbyville on
June 10, 1921 to John and Margaret Irene (Malott) Henry, she married
Yewell H. Wilkins on Nov. 29, 1975 in Bryant. He survives along with
2 daughters; Lucille (Ed) Lightle of Bryant and Delores (Gary) Southwood
of Canton, 1 son, Richard (Edie) Hamilton of Canton, 12 Grandchildren, 27 Great-Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren. 4 sisters, Rose Chunn of Sparta,
Juanita Whitley of Havana, Blanche Shaw of Lewistown and Dorothy Hamilton of Canton.
Preceding her in death are her Parents, 2 sons, William and John Hamilton, 1 Great-Great Granddaughter Brittany Carley and 1 sister Freda Smith.
She was a member of the Shields Chapel United Methodist Church in Canton.
Services will be Wednesday May 3, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. at the Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home Canton where visitation will be 2 hours before the services. .
The Rev. Stacy Tomich will officiate.
Burial will be in Maryville Cemetery in Bryant.
Memorial can be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
