Ruth E. Hunt

Ruth E. Hunt, 85, of 129 S. 1st Canton, passed away on Tuesday, January 10th at 8:10 pm at Sunset Manor, Canton.
She was born in rural Avon, August 21, 1920 to Clinton D. and Olga Mae (Bivens) Hunt. Surviving are two sisters; Catherine Dilts of Canton and Rose Russell of Speedway, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clinton Hunt. She was a member of the Fiatt Independent Christian Church and the Ladies Missionary Society of Fiatt.
Graveside services will be Friday, January 13th at 2:00 pm at the Prairie City Cemetery, Prairie City, with visitation at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton from 12 to 1:00 pm.
Rev. Jim Menne will officiate.
Memorials may be made to her church.

Dexter W. Harkness

Dexter W. Harkness, 65, of 100 W. Pearl, Farmington passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006 at 3:04 pm at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Born April 12, 1940 in Elmwood to Alden B. and Alta LaVonne (Fuller) Harkness, he married Donna L. Rusk Dec. 19, 1959 in Farmington. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters; Tammy (Raymond) Nagel, Connie (Lawrence) Wheeler and Candy (Brian) McVey all of Farmington, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother; Jerry (Jeanine) Harkness of Peoria and one sister; Marjorie (Ronald) Camp of Elmwood. Preceding him in death were his parents and four brothers. He was a meat cutter for several Kroger stores and then worked at Caterpillar in Mossville, retiring in 1997 with thirty years service. He enjoyed traveling, bowling and long camping trips. He was a member of the Farmington Loyal Order of the Moose #1571. Services will be Thursday, Jan. 12th at 1:00 pm at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home, Farmington with Rev. David Swain officiating. Visitation will be Wed. Jan. 11th from 6 to 8 pm. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington. Memorials may be made to the Farmington Rescue Squad.

Everett D. Baptist

Everett D. Baptist, 78, of 268 W. Elm Canton, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at 10:07 am at Graham Hospital Emergency Room, Canton. Born in Jacksonville, IL. on May 8, 1927 to Homer E. and Aileen L. (Ledferd) Baptist, he married Betty Ann (Smith) McGuire on Oct. 10, 1957 in Jacksonville, IL. She preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2004. Also preceding in death were his parents and three brothers, Clarence, James L. and Robert (Bobby) Baptist. Surviving are five sons, Steve (Stella) McGuire of Wilmington, NV, John Michael McGuire of Jacksonville, IL., Anthony Baptist of Canton, IL. Paul Baptist of Apache Junction, AZ.and Mark Baptist of Phoenix, AZ, three daughters, Michelle (Edward) Patches of Canton, IL, Rosemary Cleary of Scottsdale, AZ and Tara Baptist of Phoenix, AZ, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five sisters, Dorothy Headen and Ruth Hembrough both of Jacksonville, IL., Esther Charlene of Phoenix, AZ., Betty Smock of Murrayville, IL. and Patti Watson of Austin, TX. He owned and operated Baptist Plumbing in Scottsdale, AZ for 30 years. He was a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the VFW in Jacksonville, IL. Visitation will be Sunday, January 8th from 4-5 pm with the rosary at 5:00 pm. Cremation rites will be accorded after visitation. Private burial of ashes will be at East Cemetery, Jacksonville, IL.

Helen L. Wilson

Helen L. Wilson, 85, of S. Main St. limits, Canton, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006 at 2:20 pm at Graham Hospital Extended Care, Canton. Born, Dec. 1, 1920 in Orion Township, Fulton Co. IL, to Leo W. and Myrtle (Vaughn) Danner, she married Woodrow F. Wilson on Aug. 19, 1939 in Keokuk, IA. He died on Dec. 14, 1991. Surviving are one niece; Janice (Phillip) Dawson of Germantown Hills, one double cousin; Dale (Lavone) Vaughn of Canton and several cousins. She was a graduate of Peoria Central High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton and its Golden Rule Class. Services will be Friday, Jan. 6th at 2:00 pm at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home, Canton, with Rev. Stacy Tomich officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Canton. Memorials may be made to the graham Hospital Extended Care Unit.
